Resident Evil 4 Remake: One of the Top 5 PC Horror Games

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a game that deserves to be on the list of the top 5 PC horror games of 2023. It is a masterpiece that stands the test of time and delivers on graphics and gameplay. When capcom announced that they were remaking RE4, many fans were nervous that it would follow the disappointing footsteps of RE3. But this game will impress you with its amazing visuals and faithful improvements. You will forget about RE3 and enjoy this game for what it is.

Introduction

The game starts with some changes that might surprise you, but soon enough you will recognize the old resident evil 4 in this game, but with stunning visuals! Capcom wants to show you that they respect the original, but also want to add some new elements to keep things fresh. Some of these changes work better than others, but I can accept them.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay

The gameplay is almost flawless. At first, I was concerned that the enemies were not consistent in getting stunned when you shoot them in the face, since sometimes they need more than two shots to react. But by the end of the game, I was mowing them down like a pro. Sure, Leon’s movement is a bit heavy, but it doesn’t affect the fluidity of the game. The map is awesome, this was the first resident evil game where I used the map more than 100 times in one playthrough. And I spent hours collecting treasures and doing side quests.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Gunplay

The gunplay was satisfying with all the weapons except for TMP, that gun never hits where you aim, and I only used it a few times when I ran out of ammo for other weapons, or when I had to deal with some nasty dogs with Nemesis-like teeth.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Story

The story was expanded a lot, and there was so much more to learn about the plaga and Los Iluminados, the Salazar family and Ramon’s betrayal, Ada and her motives for getting the sample and how it benefits Wesker, Major Krauser and his past with Leon and even our friend Luis Sera. I think they are changing the whole story of Operation Javier, but it doesn’t sound bad though.

Graphics

Graphics are top-notch! I don’t know if ReEngine can do better than this; I have to say, the lighting is the best thing you can see in this game, and you will notice that when playing as Ashley. There was one section in the village where the rain effects were so crazy that my fps was suffering, but I can’t really blame the game for that because it looked so beautiful, and I was playing on Ultra 4K, so some fps drops are expected.

Ashley

Ashley is GREAT now! She is not a loud annoying girl who can’t even climb down a ladder anymore, but instead, she is very helpful to Leon; I actually started to like her from the church scene, there is more personality in her and that was the best change they made in the remake.

Cons

Merchant’s voice was a drawback; it sounded like he was imitating or even insulting the original voice actor; I don’t know why, but it felt like I was talking to the duke from ReVillage. But then again, the duke didn’t talk as much; even if he did, I didn’t mind. But the merchant is very talkative now! Be quiet already! I’m trying to pick something to buy, don’t give me that same dialogue every time; it feels like the merchant was supposed to be Ashley or something, and his dialogue doesn’t always make sense; for example, he sometimes boasts he has some rare things on sale but I couldn’t find anything in his pockets. Speaking of pockets, the only funny and good thing he said was that I couldn’t fit that Rocket launcher in my pocket.

Conclusion

The game feels a lot like the old RE4, and in some cases even better; the action is like john wick killing a bunch of farmers, but at some points, the Horror is Unbearable! Wait until you encounter and try to defeat the first two Regeneradors while looking for that Biosensor Scope. The BIG undeniable flaw of RE4 Remake, which cannot be completely overlooked, is simplifying or removing several challenging situations that were present or more engaging in the original version, especially from the island.

There are not many games that can truly be recommended to all types of gamers. But some video games are so brilliant that everyone should experience them at least once. When Resident Evil 4 was released in 2005, it was considered as such. The remake of Resident Evil 4 is a good reminder of this fact. Resident Evil 4 2023 is essentially a video game worthy of respect. It doesn’t matter if you fought the followers of Los Iluminados several years ago or if you have no knowledge of Resident Evil 4. Experience this Masterpiece at all costs!

9/10, Must Play!
